Tonight could be the best or worst night of Steve Komphela’s life. Kaizer Chiefs are coming up against the new boys Cape Town City in their first ever cup game as a club. The City Boyz are under no pressure, Kaizer Chiefs on the other hand have it all to do.
The supporters are struggling to make sense of what is going on at Kaizer Chiefs, one win in the last 14 competitive games is not a record that the Khosi Nation is proud of.
The supporters have been discussing the issue at length on their Facebook group. It seems the supporters are in distress.
"Whether we care to admit it or not but (Mamelodi) Sundowns and (Orlando) Pirates are our direct competition. Right now Pirates, Sundowns, (Bidvest) Wits and maybe SuperSport (United) have superior squads to ours (Kaizer Chiefs). To make matters worse they all have better coaches."
While much of the heat is being directed at the coach, many have also questioned the backroom tactics, particularly the appointment of John Paintsil as assistant coach.
“You cannot fail while you have an experienced assistance coach next to you the person who knows the team more than you and expect to win while having inexperience men that never played for chiefs. Players have no respect to those two guys that r in the bench (Steve ) (Paintsil).”
And most of the other conversations have revolved around tactics and Komphela’s use of formation, many have cited the 4-4-1-1 as the reason for the struggling performances.
“Khompela please don’t be defensive too much. Please play attacking football, your formation fails us play 4-4-2 please.”
The names of the supporters have been left out for privacy.
Many in South Africa have touted this as the beginning of the end for the technical team if the result does not swing in Amakhosi’s favor tonight. Supporters Club wishes him the best of luck.
What is your message for the coach and technical staff before tonight’s game?
