Highlands Park have been full of surprises this season, especially when it comes to signings. The latest in this saga is the capture of the legendary Surprise Moriri. Is this a good move for both parties? It seems the supporters are split on the matter.
Many think this was not a good idea for both club and player. The fear is that Moriri will not be able to maintain his legendary status at the ripe old age of 36, and that he will also not be of great help to the club.
"Legend my legend, once hailed as the most intelligent player in the PSL by the late Ted Dumitru... but why do you want to end your career like this? With a team that's going to be relegated via the play-offs." – So-Mathabo-KBY
"Gordon Igesund is turning Highlands Park FC into a retirement old age home. Moriri must do us favour and retire from the game now as he is known to be a winner, rather than retire later as a loser and a failure because in football we tend to judge one by his last few games. Anyway, whom am I to judge Moriri? I just wish him all the best at his new team, Highlands Park." – Aka-Skobho
"That's Gordon Igesund for you. Turning Highlands Park into an old age retirement team, just like he did at Swallows, forgetting to plan for the future. You can't just have so many veterans who can't run anymore. Relegation is looming here, if not a straight one, then it will be via play-offs." – Master Mketule
However, others are more hopeful and see a bright future for Moriri and Igesund, and believe that this may just be the perfect way Surprise to end a colourful career.
"I think that's a good move for him to add experience to that young side, I just hope he still has it in him to play like he did before." – Alton11
"You can say he is too old but if he still has the energy, he still has it... experience is needed at Highlands Park and people like Surprise are needed to share knowledge with the youngsters at the team... a player of his calibre can be the difference between Highlands staying in the PSL and relegation. Look at what Mbesuma is doing, even at national level. You would be close-minded to think that because Moriri is old, he is useless. Look at the influence Zlatan has made for Man United... i mean Ricardo Carvalho, at 38, was playing for Portugal and Monaco and was an influential player... so age is no factor." – JacobShine
