It was recently announced which teams Bafana Bafana will face in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, and they are set to take on the likes of Senegal, the Cape Verde Islands, and Burkina Faso. Many hailed this as a good sign of hope for our qualifying efforts; however, our wise supporters have also warned that we could be underestimating our opponents at our own peril.
What most fans seemed particularly ecstatic about was the presence of Cape Verde Islands in our qualifying group as history between the two nations favours South Africa, with two wins and a draw most recently.
"One cannot help but notice that Bafana's wins happened 11/12 years back, the draw is the most recent ands shows the improvement the Cape Verde team went through. Contrary to popular belief, the group will be extremely difficult and Bafana cannot afford to rest on their laurels." – Bleek8
"Cape Verde is a strong team now to beat. Don't take them lightly guys, I warn you." – Sifiso wekhosi
"We tend to disappoint where it matters most. Good luck to Bafana Bafana, though." – mzet 082
Bafana Bafana can be a difficult team to support at times. The same team that beat Spain 1-0 one year can lose 3-1 to Mauritania the next. Let's hope the boys do their homework this time, and make the nation proud.
