This weekend, Bafana Bafana go through one of their final tests in the gruelling qualifying campaign for the 2017 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. Some supporters are seeing this game as purely ceremonial, while others think it may carry serious implications – it may usher in yet another coaching era in Bafana Bafana's history.
Mathematically, Bafana Bafana still have a chance of grabbing a spot in the continental tournament, although it is rather slim. Some supporters are calling for Shakes to step down before the game.
"Shakes, just give up. You have let us down." – Da Brisco Nation
"Resign, Mr Mashaba." – Kingbucs85
Most supporters have still not fully recovered from the humiliating feat achieved by Mashaba and his charges last year, when we suffered a 3-1 thrashing at the hands of a little country called Mauritania and then drew at home to an even smaller country called Gambia.
"I always ask myself and I have no answer. How did we come to lose that game?" – katzarobbafana
Many supporters have grown tired of trying to make heads or tails of Mashaba's selection policy, while others have already begun forecasting his sacking and predicting his successor.
"Mr Mashaba, it's clear to me that you don't want to face reality. Mr Gavin Hunt is breathing down your neck. News flash Mr Shakes… your days as Bafana coach are numbered." – octavious
Many supporters have already started stating who they wish to see as the next coach. Among the names being thrown around are: Gavin Hunt, Stephen Keshi, and Dan Maselela. A lot of supporters are even calling for the return of some former coaches such as Stuart Baxter and Gordon Igesund.
Do you think Shakes needs more time? If he was to be replaced, who should take over?
