Sibusiso Vilakazi has been a hot topic on the lips of the South African football fraternity for a while now. He has been in impressive form for Bidvest Wits as they have built a formidable team over the past season. Now one of the “big three” will be looking to acquire his services and the supporters are putting pressure on the bosses to make the deal happen. However, is he worthy of being the most expensive local transfer?
Transfer fees are generally pretty closely held secrets in South Africa. However, R10 Million has often been the tag associated with “Villa.” What do the supporters make of this?
“Looking at the league he is in, he must be within reasonable range with his teammates and rivals.” – Bubbles.
“This thing is useless to pay R10M, while on the other hand Villa is 27 years and that money can buy plus/minus three young, fresh pairs of legs.” – Zang
“Even CBD isn’t worth R10Million, how come Villa can be worth that much but didn’t even score 10 goals in a season. Kutumela scored 18 goals and Pirates didn’t pay more than R3Million for him. Mbesuma scored 14 (and doesn’t even have a club).” – Tumelo Aquel.
To be put a bit of balance into the last comment; Thabiso Kutumela scored 18 goals in the NFD, and Vilakazi did not have a full season due to injury. However, the concept still holds; for a player to be the most expensive, he needs to have done something really special in the last season.
Would you be happy with your club paying R10 Million for Sibusiso Vilakazi?
