Bafana Bafana have climbed in the latest FIFA international rankings. This, on the face of things, is good news. However, supporters, with some questioning its accuracy as well as its bias against African sides, have called the whole system into question.
It seems supporters have not been impressed in the slightest by Bafana's latest rise in the rankings to position 62 in the world, putting us behind the likes of Panama and Uzbekistan. Many think this position is simply not good enough, regardless of whether the team is climbing or not.
"Bafunny Bafunny plays nonsense, hence they climb up the rankings. That's insane! This is exactly what makes Shakes arrogant for nothing. SAFA are just clueless about developing our football. Neil Tovey, I am disappointed in him as the director. I thought he would have changed the current situation by now. We are not even in the top 10 in Africa, yet we claim to have the best league on the continent. Yes, we do have the best league financially and structurally. We just have to accept that we are not a footballing nation, especially if we fail to beat countries like Gambia, nci! nci! nci! We are always building, kanti when are we going to see the results?" – Buntu516
"I really doubt that Bafana are rising because they are winning; I think they are rising because the teams above them are dropping..." – Matt Dewail22
There are also many supporters who think that the rankings themselves and the system used should be brought into question.
"African football needs CAF to fight this governing body... Ivory Coast and Algeria have been on top of the ball for quite a while now, yet they don't seem to be making strides in the rankings, it boggles the mind... Ivory Coast are African champs for heaven's sake. What have England achieved since 1966?" – Hakeem x
"For one win? I don't think we deserve this." – La'Quintah
