Life has moved on for both Eric Tinkler and Orlando Pirates. The club has a new coach, and the coach has a new club. If you were to ask most supporters to reflect on Tinkler's time at Mayfair, most would probably describe it as a failure, but is there more to it than meets the eye?
"Tinker played an important role for Bucs last season."
These were the words of one of our supporters, Daniel Madenza Kutumela.
"Pirates were rated No. 10 on the continent under his charge. He was better than most overrated coaches from Cape to Cairo & Maputo to Madagascar!
"Everyone witnessed him tactically approaching and changing against the likes of Al Ahly and Sundowns."
This is an interesting viewpoint. Despite the failure to impress in the PSL, it is perhaps unfair to call Tinkler an outright failure; after all, he did a lot to secure four CCL spots for South African teams (which were all pretty passionately thrown away) and spread the image of the Pirates' brand throughout Africa. We would also like to think that if he won the CCL, he might still be coaching Pirates today...
Do you think Tinkler was unfairly criticised as Bucs' coach?
