Football is a strange sport, and players have odd habits that sometimes don't make sense to us, the supporters. In the latest saga, former Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona has been caught up in a betting scandal.
The "Smiling Assassin" was caught betting on his own games in the Belgium top flight. He has come out openly, saying that he did, possibly not knowing the rules. The supporters have been discussing his predicament.
"There's nothing serious here. I don't see any sin here. It's not like he robbed someone. Players are gambling at the casinos, players are playing lottery all over the globe. These people just want to distract him from banging in those goals. I don't think even Musona knew that, according to Belgium Football Law, it's a sin for a player to bet; if he knew, he wouldn't have done that. Here in the PSL, he was free to bet as much as he likes. This is unfair, he must rather come back. Honestly!" – Honestkhosi
"At least it's only betting, not cocaine like Ntshumayelo." – Matthias
"Soccer players know the rules, that's all I can say. People must start following soccer and the rules so that they will come here with constructive comments, not biased ones." – bongsMo
So it looks like it's another case where we need to decide whether we feel sorry for the footballer or if we have higher expectations of their behaviour...
