Some of our local PSL supporters have been left heartbroken as their beloved teams are sold left, right and centre! This off-season has seen not one but two teams give up their league statuses in return for big bucks, and this has left their loyal fan base questioning the faithfulness of the owners.
Some supporters have spoken out on the recent news that Moroka Swallows made a bid for PSL team Free State Stars in order to return to the top flight after they plunged into the ABC Motsepe League.
"This is totally out of order. PSL should consider the fans before approving any sales of clubs. Free State Stars supporters deserve more than an explanation." – blackmail
"Moroka Swallows are cowards, they're afraid of competing with minors because they're going to be humiliated." – ianwalepiratees
"This is totally wrong, man. Considering the amount of people who had been following the team for years, now they are just abandoned like that without even informing them, which means supporters are worthless in South African football." – misokuhle nogaya
It baffles one's mind how all who are involved in the selling of the clubs could not take into consideration the fans, the people who pay their hard-earned money and give their time to support their clubs, only to be left without a local team to support.
This raises many questions... do club owners really care about the fans? By the looks of it, money seems to be the only answer. It is a sad, sad situation that could have a devastating effect on our beautiful game…
What are your opinions on the continuous sales of teams? How do you feel about Moroka Swallows moving from the ABC Motsepe League straight into the PSL?
