The U23s jubilantly lifted the mood of the nation on the weekend when they claimed victory in the COSAFA Cup. Unfortunately, the spirits have fallen right back down to the gravel following a 4-1 demolition at the hands of Japan's U23 side. Supporters are concerned that, once again, the selection policy is out of tune.
Many questioned where young, hard-working and talented Lorenzo Gordinho was on the night of the slaughter.
"ODG, where is Gordinho? How can you leave out such a young, promising talent? Please rethink your selection before you go to Rio. Don't be like your father, Mashaba." – sabelolehoko
"Eintlik, where is Gordinho? I thought he played well and deserves to be in Rio." – senwamadi
While many supporters predict an onslaught at the Olympics as the boys prepare to face Brazil and Neymar, many others are remaining patient and proud of the fact that we qualified.
"These things happen in football. Final score does not really reflect our teams' capabilities. We managed to qualify for this tournament, this means we are one of the strongest teams on the continent." – 04nazos
What can the U23s do to shape up before the Olympics?
