Times are interesting for South Africa as a nation. Mamelodi Sundowns are about to engage in the final of the CAF Champions League, while Bafana Bafana have embarked on a World Cup qualifying campaign and need to form a formidable and unified squad to do so. If it comes down to it, who should be chosen?
One of our online supporters thinks Sundowns and Bafana's objectives may be at odds with each other, especially with regard to Pitso Mosimane's request that players from Chloorkop be omitted from the Bafana squad so that they can be fresh for the CCL final.
Many supporters have found it odd that Pitso chose the media as the platform to ask this of Mashaba. Shakes, too, found this odd.
Here's one reader's take on it all:
"Personally, I think it is fair to Sundowns. But if Pitso didn't go to media about the players, just speak to Shakes behind closed doors, it was going to be great. Because the players who are going to replace them won't feel valued enough. They will feel they are good enough for friendlies only and some coaches in the PSL had the last say over Bafana Bafana. Look, Pitso asked Shakes to put his players in the national team, he did; asked him again to give him back his players, he once again did.
"Where I stand now, it seems Sundowns are more important than the national team. Keep in mind Bafana players play only a few games together, which means every game is important to bring them closer. I don't understand why Pitso keeps talking the way he does. And come someone else and say the coach was misunderstood." – Sbu89
Should Pitso have spoken to Mashaba in private? Are Bafana and Sundowns' objectives at odds with each other?
