Mamelodi Sundowns are a phenomenal football team, there is no doubt about that; they have pretty much achieved everything under the sun for a South African side. However, there is one niggle that still remains… they play championship football in front of an empty stadium. A couple of our supporters discuss this issue here in Supporters Club.
"I think Sundowns management should read this urgently. As long as we don't attract big crowds, we will always play second fiddle to both Chiefs and Pirates. Take Sundowns out of Loftus and Lucas Moripe. Whatever you do, take the games all over PTA until you see where the crowds are. Take the game to Soshanguve stadium. See if we get a good crowd there. Or take the game to Tuks stadium. Speak to municipality about HM Pitje. But this empty stadium business is disappointing to players. Mphahlele left because Chiefs are more attractive. He was winning everything, so he didn't really need to go to Chiefs. But the prospect of playing in big crowds attracted him. Dolly, Billiat, Tau, Laffor, etc., might also be attracted to follow. Take this seriously if you want this brand to grow. Otherwise we will win everything but remain in the same position as the third biggest team in South Africa. #fillupthestadium." – Goddo
"All Sundowns need to do is to have a stadium suited for 25 000 supporters for small games so we can pack the stadium and be easily in full voice, and move big games to Loftus or LM. Look at TP Mazembe, their stadium is 25 000 capacity and look how it works for them... even the Soweto teams are struggling to fill up their games... we just need to be realistic." – baryt
