'Steven Pienaar Is A Short-Term Solution'

A few years ago, it would have been crazy to hear someone say that they did not want the great midfield maestro Steven Pienaar in their team. News recently broke that his contract with English outfit Everton would not be renewed. With a possible move back to South Africa on the cards, the supporters have begun arguing over whether he would be a solution or a problem to have in a local side.
One of our supporters, Nenga Mqanduli, has warned others off thinking Pienaar will be the answer to all their prayers. He warned that signing the player may be a case of falling into the trap of short-term thinking. This supporter has particularly warned that Sundowns would be at a loss if they were to sign the 34-year-old.
"I respect Steven Pienaar, he is a good player, full of experience," he said. "He is Mzansi's best midfielder. My question is: what if we fail again in this CAF Champions League? Pienaar is a short-term solution. I think we should look at young stars like Morne Nel and Travis Graham. We need to have long-term solutions. Quick fixes will never be a solution, but if you give a young star a chance, even the national team will benefit… I wouldn't like to see what happened to Ekstein at Chiefs to happen our young stars. These young boys must be given a chance in order for them to develop and become great stars of tomorrow."
Do you think Pienaar is past his prime, or does he still have something to offer a team like Sundowns?
