South Africa has a particular knack for being drawn into tough groups. This time around, for the Rio Olympics, it is no different. The boys have been drawn in a group with hosts Brazil, Denmark, and Iraq. What do South Africans think of our chances of progressing?
"Group A, Brazil and Denmark will go through, and we will come home as usual." – Fisto vs Kaizerpig. This was one of the more negative comments, but it is not the majority. Most Supporters seem full of hope.
"Logically and mathematically, U23 gents have qualified for next round." – God hear Orlando Pirates
"Mzansi magic… Please do us proud and happy." – Shabza_Khosi
If history is anything to go by, South Africa should be fine. In the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, an U23 South African side that featured the likes of Matthew Booth, Quinton Fortune, and Benni McCarthy overcame a Brazilian team, with a certain Ronaldinho in it, 3-1 to claim a memorable victory.
"They must do what the team of 2000 did against Brazil." – Wa Kwet
Do you think our boys can replicate the class of 2000? What are our chances?
