The bizarre business of South African football continues its merry-go-round as it was recently announced that the Morfou brothers, who sold Mpumalanga Black Aces, have now bought Tornado FC in the ABC Motsepe League. The Supporters discuss the buying/selling madness.
“That says it all about SA football...u sell n start buying your way back into the business....mxm” – A-Zbucksmaye
“So this is what SA football has become the most painfull thing is that its the supporters that suffer the most who ever came up with this STATUS BUYING thing leave football.” – sihleKC
This is a common thing in South African football as the former Mpumalanga Black Aces was sold to Cape Town businessman John Comitis and renamed Cape Town City FC. Essentially when a deal like this happens it is to buy the status of the selling club, in this instance it was a PSL status.
"Well let them make money but it’s not fair to the supporters!" - Lebstikano
“My friend it’s simple, we just trade and make more moola PSL has become JSE.Alexandra black Aces in 2016 after two years it will be called Nkandla black Aces another team will be sold in a form of franchise from kzn under ABC Motsepe league.” – MVEZi2
“It is business, but to me its just pure madness.” – Dangerous_when_provoked
“These guys are not footballers they are just behind the money. They don't care about South African football. this sell and buy is not good for South African football.” – mgudi
Many have suggested that South Africa should adopt a ruling similar to that in England, where the buying and selling of clubs is permitted but the name and location of the club must remain so as not to uproot the supporters.
What is your thought on the buying and selling of status’s? Does it have a place in our football? Can it be beneficial?
