We at Supporters Club love to give our readers a platform to voice their opinions regarding all things football in our country. One reader expressed his thoughts on so-called "smaller clubs" and their reaction after winning a trophy.
"It has become a trend that keeps on going for so-called smaller clubs: after winning a cup, they tend to lose concentration and focus. It happened with Golden Arrows back in 2009 after they won the MTN8 trophy; later on they were relegated. Santos and Platinum Stars also found themselves struggling after winning cups, and Santos even went on to be relegated. Last season, Ajax Cape Town defeated Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 cup final at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, after that victory they found themselves fighting for relegation. Recently, Cape Town City are showing early signs of losing focus – after their Telkom Knockout triumph over SuperSport United, they got a hiding from a struggling Platinum Stars on Tuesday evening. The big question is: Does winning cups bring a dark shadow for them? And if yes, where did it go wrong after cup dominance? Worst, Santos, who were former PSL champions under the leadership of Gordon Idesund, are now fighting for survival in the NFD. That's the cruelty of football; suddenly things are changing as now even so-called big clubs or giants are no longer dominating the league." – Sejosengoe walter Itumeleng
