From time to time, clubs like SuperSport Untied and Mamelodi Sundowns were moved to search for players across the borders and not just from their own backyard.
Many of these players come into the PSL and one can immediately see their quality compared to those that had been playing in the country for quite some time now.
We have seen this in the likes of Jeremy Brockie and Andrea Fileccia who has been banging in the goals for their respective clubs. That being said, one of the top priorities of clubs like Orlando Pirates and Sundowns to do well in continental competition.
So then, should those who have mandates to do well in Africa not shop from within the continent?
This would ultimately give teams an added benefit going into continental competition. We can only but think of Bucs in this regard.
Pirates will most likely field a side solely made up of South African born players. They are one club in the country that has very foreigners within their team as they believe in unearthing home-grown talent.
With Bucs already in the final of the CAF Confederations cup, imagine how better the side would be with a couple of experienced African campaigners within their camp?
What are your thoughts on this?
