Our football has changed, there is no doubt about that. As the world has become more globalised, so has our football, and it has lost some of its authenticity. Today in Supporters Club, we debate the use of kasi flavour in our football, particularly in reference to Bidvest Wits this past weekend.
Towards the end of the MTN8 final, when Wits were up 3-0, they began to do a little bit of showboating. After the game, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane expressed his dissatisfaction at the display.
The supporters have since rubbished Pitso's claims and thrown their support behind the use of kasi flavour in the local game.
The following posts are from our Facebook group, and have therefore been left anonymous.
"Don't know why we are even debating this. Showboating is authentically part of our football culture (diski). Why are we letting European football take away the only thing that makes our football unique?"
"Up! Up! Up! We're tired of teams winning with big margins and then wasting time by playing WWE Raw at the corner post... it was a cup game, so I don't know where the problem is."
"Thumbs up, showboating is the culture of our football since the days of Jomo Sono, Scara Ngobese, etc. It's what fans like to see. We are not Europeans and never will be # ViVa Kasi Football."
One of our online supporters had this to say on the matter:
"I was there watching it live at Mbombela, and what an awesome moment... perfect time and perfect place. The crowd deserved to see this from Wits after they went all the way to support a team like Wits. Once they'd done it with a 3-0 scoreline, then give the fans what they want to see. When they started doing the kasi flavour, the whole stadium was on their feet and cheering for more. And what I like is that it was productive from Wits."– Bhekstar Bee
