Things are happening at Orlando Pirates. There is a lot of moving and shaking, new players are being signed at a rapid rate and the team even has a new coach with a new philosophy. The supporters can expect to see a very different Buccaneers side next season. There is one small matter still to attend to, though: Who will make way for the new signings?
The Pirates faithful sat patiently through the season that has just passed and watched Eric Tinkler's men grind out below-par performances in terms of results.
As a result, the Buccaneer supporters called for the chairman to make wholesale changes to the squad, and he obliged, with the club recently announcing the signings of Abbubaker Mobara, Riyaad Norodien, Thabiso Kutumela, and Bernard Morrison.
On top of this, the chairman also announced that the players to be released would be revealed next week. On reaction to that news, 67% of the supporters mentioned Thamsanqa Gabuza as part of their exit wish list, 20% suggested Rooi Mahamutsa should go too, and a further 10% said the same of Issa Sarr.
This would clear a player in all the positions in which Pirates has purchased players, so space would be made. Whether Pirates will be as drastic as Chiefs and release 20 players, or just three remains to be seen, but it seems, from the supporter sentiment, that Mahamutsa, Gabuza and Sarr lead the list of the Sea Robbers who could walk the plank.
Do you agree with this? Who do you think Pirates should get rid of first?
