The 2016/17 season finally got under way this week, and the performances were mind-blowing!
As we sat in the stadiums, and some comfortably on their couches at home, the PSL brought us entertaining opening fixtures, with the supporters getting a chance to catch a glimpse of their beloved teams and what they can expect to see throughout the season.
Although there were promising displays from the likes of Chippa United, Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits, Platinum Stars, Maritzburg United, and Cape Town City, there were others who still need some more grooming as they progress through the campaign.
One of these teams was Kaizer Chiefs. Their poor showing last season caused an uproar among the Khosi nation, and after their first encounter this time around, not much seems to have changed. It might be too early to judge Amakhosi and jump to conclusions, but Chiefs are a big club and the supporters demand positive results! Coach Steve Komphela will be hoping their fortunes turn around and that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
On a lighter note, the Clever Boys continued with their stunning performances as they secured their first three points for the season. Gavin Hunt's charges will be seeking to emulate their success from last season and possibly win the title this time around.
The new-look Orlando Pirates began their campaign with a stellar clash against Golden Arrows, and the apple of the Buccaneer faithful's eye, Tendai Ndoro, proved his worth with a hat-trick. Considering the great display shown by the Pirates players, the fans will be expecting more positive results and silverware this season.
PSL newcomers Baroka FC managed to contain unpredictable Ajax Cape Town as they drew 1-1 in their home fixture, while Highlands Park are yet to get their first taste of league action as their opponents, Mamelodi Sundowns, were away on CAF competition duty.
What did you think of the first round of PSL encounters?
