As is the tradition in football circles around the globe, the so-called giants are expected to claim silverware every season. That said, Orlando Pirates have failed to win a single trophy since lifting the Nedbank Cup in 2014. The Buccaneers knocked out crosstown rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the first round of the same competition this season, and that result will no doubt give them the confidence to go all the way and win this year's edition.
However, they face a daunting task against a team they beat 5-0 just a fortnight ago, Jomo Cosmos. Jomo Sono's men will be gunning for revenge after the humiliating result they suffered at Orlando Stadium in the league, and will be encouraged by their 1-0 win over Chiefs, as well as the fact that they will be playing at home, where they beat Pirates by a single goal in January.
However, Bucs supporter Dejan Miladinovic believes Pirates are guaranteed a victory over Cosmos.
"The boys will definitely win," he said.
"I think they know the importance of winning this match, so they will go all out in order to win so that we can go further in the competition.
"We will also be there to support the team, so they have to do the job on the field and beat Cosmos again."
Eric Tinkler's men will be looking to claim the R7 million trophy, which may see them return to continental competition next year in the CAF Confederation Cup.
After beating Chiefs in the last 32, do you think Pirates can go all the way and win this year's edition of the Nedbank Cup? Could Cosmos pull out yet another surprise on the Sowetan giants? Share your thoughts below.
