Orlando Pirates have had a rollercoaster of season, and one of the major talking points has been the team's defence and the goalkeeping departments.
Some of the Buccaneers faithful voiced their opinions after it was discussed in the Siya Special of Soccer Laduma, issue 1022, discussed Pirates' long-running search for a new goalkeeper and the rumour that the Mayfair club could be looking to acquire the services of SuperSport United's Ronwen Williams.
"No, he's not a solution. The problem at Orlando Pirates is not with the goalkeepers, it's the defenders. We need natural central defenders." – luumko
"Williams will not solve anything, we have great goalkeepers, it's just a matter of confidence at Pirates which affected the whole squad, confident defenders rub off their form to their goalkeeper and then they won't concede silly goals." – Bucs_10
"When four good goalkeepers keep conceding a lot of goals in one season, that tells you one thing: the problem is not the keepers but the defence, we need strong centre backs like Tyson (Thulani Hlatshwayo), who will protect the goalkeeper and that's when you will see that the keepers have no problem. We know the quality of Mpontshane, Mabokgwane and Mhlongo, I mean all these keepers have played for the national team, and that tells you that they possess quality, they just need to be protected by the defence." – MAKHUBELA
Do you think the number of goals Pirates are conceding can be blamed solely on the defence?
