The South African U23 team is about to take on some of the world's best at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The last time SA competed in this competition was 16 years ago, with the likes of Matthew Booth and Fabian McCarthy… Now, the boys need the entire country to get behind them.
Self-proclaimed No. 1 Orlando Pirates supporter Dejan Miladinovic is looking forward to the event.
"I am excited for this team. Especially considering what we achieved in the Cosafa Cup, it's very good stuff. And they won that without including the entire star-studded squad that we will have in the Olympics. We are excited for them to go very far, make the achievement and make South Africa proud," he said.
"ODG (Owen da Gama) is a great coach. He has proved that he knows what he is doing. He has a very strong team with him, and he is not there by mistake. We trust him, this is a huge moment for him. These youngsters will combine very well under him. They can go very far, but we do have a tough group with Brazil in it. We want to end up in the semi-final or final with a little bit of luck."
The last time South Africa played in this tournament, they beat a Brazilian team featuring Ronaldinho 3-2… Let's hope for similar success!
