Opinions have been plenty and varied ever since Coach Shakes Mashaba announced his squad to tackle Cameroon in two crucial qualifying games. Most supporters seem to agree that the selection policy falls short, yet few agree on where it falls short. Today, we bring you a different opinion, a patriotic one.
“All we need to do is concentrate on the field and trust the boys to do the job.” These were the thoughts of lifelong Moroka Swallows fan and devoutly patriotic South African, “Rasta”
Rasta is of the view that while we may very well disagree about our club differences, when it comes to the national team, our job is not to criticize but simply to Support.
“The coach knows what he’s doing. We must just support the boys and go forward. Don’t criticize so much, we should be proud of each and every boy that puts on the national colors.”
The sentiment or message here seems to be that, by criticizing our players in the media and particularly Shakes’ selection policy, we are killing their confidence. In so doing, we are not contributing towards their performance.
Do you believe Supporting the national team is different to Supporting your club team? Should the type of criticism change?
