Maritzburg United have had a rollercoaster of a season. The Team of Choice are fighting a battle that sees them on the brink of relegation. At present, the team is placed in the play-off position, but that could all go pear-shaped if the club lose their last encounter against Jomo Cosmos.
Paul Lutchman, a loyal fan of the Pietermaritzburg-based outfit, had much to say about his team's form this season.
"I must say, the performance of the players this season has been constantly good, but it's unfortunate because luck has not been on our side," he said.
"The last game against Cosmos is our final hope to remain in the PSL, and I'm positive that we will get our desired results from the encounter."
There have been questions about the support of the fans as, in some fixtures, they seemed to have had enough and even walked out of the stadium when the team were losing.
"We fully support our team. We are human and, of course, as fans, we do get upset at some point but that does not mean that we have given up on the team," Lutchman added
"As seen in the previous game, we played midweek and the stadium was packed! Even going into this game against Cosmos, we are looking at around 10 buses that will be departing for the away clash. Now which teams in the PSL can say that they receive such large numbers?"
With the supporters fully behind the team, it all boils down to the players to do the job on the field.
"The players must just play with confidence on Saturday. We have a great squad and they need to believe in their talents and produce good results," he continued.
"There is no pressure from the supporters' side."
Do you think Maritzburg United will be able to beat Jomo's side come Saturday afternoon?
