Dumisa Ngobe is in the building, and is answering your questions! Today he discusses the influence of his father in his career, the team where he enjoyed his football and his advice to the current crop of players.
Your Father, Junior Ngobe was also a professional player, how did that influence your career? – TrevorBaker
Dumisa Ngobe: Let me be honest with you, at first I did not want to be a soccer player. During my high school days I had a dream of becoming an engineer. However, football is in my blood and I could not run away from that fact. My father was a good player and I obviously looked up to him and I learned as much as I could from him.
Which team was your toughest opponent in South Africa? – tylub
DM: It would have to be Mamelodi Sundowns!
Out of all the teams you played for, where did you mostly enjoy you football and why? – King POMPE
DM: I would say that I enjoyed my career at Orlando Pirates. At that time I was facing many challenges because of the rumours of me going to Kaizer Chiefs and when I joined the Buccaneers it was not easy for me. I had to prove myself to those who were questioning why so many teams were after my signature. The coach (Viktor Bondarenko), always said that he would start his team with me and then build the rest of the squad around me and that boosted my confidence. I enjoyed every moment!
Mr Ngobe, you played soccer at the highest level but we haven't seen much of you since you retired from soccer. What are you currently doing? – Guess Steven Andries
DM: At the moment I am working for the local municipality as a Sports Allocation Officer.
What advice can you give to the current football players about preparing for life after football? – Mido93
DM: From my experience, I would encourage them to complete their schooling and to further their education so that they will have another career path to follow. Football is a short career and one injury can end it in a second. They must not wait until they retire to figure out what they want to do.
