We are in a particularly awkward position as a country at the moment. Our national coach and some of our best players are not on speaking terms. The point is not who is at fault, but rather: how can we fix this problem?
Many supporters think coach Shakes Mashaba is the problem, and that the manager's decisions make little sense in the context of Vision 2020.
"Vision 2020, yet Dolly gets left out of a crucial Afcon qualifier for a mere friendly? Mokotjo retires before 30? Kermit shows us the middle finger? Masilela miraculously gets injured every time he's called up? Gabuza and Rantie always lead our line no matter their form or game time at club level? One common denominator: Ephraim Shakes Mashaba. The man is way too arrogant to lead the nation's biggest sport, period! Him and our president are both a joke to the intellects of this country." – The_Ultimate_Tumelo
However, there are others who think that, no matter who is right or wrong, it is in players' interest to honour national call-ups. One supporter cited the case of Erasmus.
"Bad news for you because what if an English team comes knocking at your door? You need national team caps for you to play there. Mzansi players tend to be arrogant and ignorant at times when our national team needs them. Our ranking in the world is one step ascending but two steps descending. Swallow your pride and honour that call-up because not everybody get its." – RayzaKhosisistency
