Former Bidvest Wits attacker Phakamani Mahlambi officially made a move to the Egyptian Premier League after securing a deal with Al Ahly. The 19-year-old is the first South African to have made a move to Egypt, and is joining an eight-time CAF Champions League-winning club.
The supporters have expressed their views on Mahlambi's switch, and most feel this is a good transfer for the young star.
"Beginning of greater things to come. It's high time that South Africans stop undermining other African countries' football leagues. History has proven that money and 'first world infrastructure' doesn't book you a sport in major international tournaments (well, except if we are hosting). Phakamani, go harvest and bring home the much-needed experience and spirit of pride in donning a national team's jersey. All the best, boy." – squarepeace
"That was a great move. Good luck, young man!" – EagleEye
"Look behind at that trophy display and see the kind of wars this giant team has won. Good move, boy." – knighty
"Huge stepping stone for Phaks. He already has league honours in SA and will surely win the same in Egypt with Ahly. Not only that, the boy stands a very good chance of continental glory. His CV will be scary by the time he turns 24, hopefully plying his trade in Europe by then. He will become extremely cultured and more of an all-round individual. All the best to one of SA's brightest stars with a heart of gold!" – Ant_55
