There is nothing that gets South Africans more excited than the possibility of a new, venomous striker climbing up the ranks. This may be the case with the young Emmanuel Letlotlo of Kaizer Chiefs' MultiChoice Diski Challenge team, but this one is peppered with some mixed emotions. The country is elated at the news that he may be called up to the U23 Olympic team, but the Khosi Nation is scratching its head: how has such a talent not yet played for his club's senior side?
Soccer Laduma website users had a lot to say on the matter.
"Because he's not a used-to-be. He's not a free agent flop from a particular popular club." – Shuman
"Why is Chiefs waiting till next season to use this boy?" – Sifiso Whekhosi
"If this boy ends up not signing for Chiefs, then I will never watch them play again." – Champ – Fajulate
So, it seems the news of the possible call-up to the national U23 team has been overshadowed by the confusion surrounding his absence in Amakhosi's first team.
However, South Africans are still singing his praises after his stellar season – he was the top goalscorer in the MDC – as well as his recent hat-trick in a 3-3 draw with Boca Juniors while playing for Chiefs' development side.
"Great news (the possibility of him being selected for SA U23s). He may be the next (Shaun) Bartlett or (Benni) McCarthy." – Katzarobbafana
"Keep shining, young man." – Mshumayeli
Do you think Letlotlo is ready for the national U23s? Is he ready for Chiefs' senior side? Does scoring goals in the MDC mean you will score goals in the PSL?
