The excitement in the air is palpable. A new-look Orlando Pirates squad is about to take on a new, tough task in a new campaign. Expectations are at an all-time high; now that there is a new coach in charge, different results are expected. But how much expectation is too much expectation?
One of our supporters, Mrabaraba wa Mketule, had some words of warning, or wisdom rather, for the Buccaneer faithful as they head into the new season and begin to watch Mushin Ertugral's every move.
"A lot of work needs to be done and it is not like if you put all best players you will win everything,
"Refer to Real Madrid and Sundowns in previous years and they even had 67 players at one stage and brought so many coaches, and I mean top-class coaches, but still failed until Pitso came, and he also stuttered before he find his combination.
"My point is let us not rush Muhsin to win everything, but we have to allow players to understand each other, the kind of passes they want, whether hard passes or passes to their feet, etc.
"Such things take time as you have to know your fellow teammates' strength, speed and body language. Tactics from coaches take time and I appeal to Bucs fans to be patient and understand when we have bad games in the beginning."
So it seems the hard work is not yet done. Signing star players and employing a tactically superior coach is just half the work; everything still needs to click, and for this to work, patience and time is needed.
Will Bucs fans be patient with Ertugral? Or will the first loss spell trouble?
