Mamelodi Sundowns take on Zambian giants ZESCO United at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in the second leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final. Bafana Ba Style are trailing by one goal in aggregate after suffering a 2-1 defeat in Zambia last weekend.
All SA football lovers should rally behind Masandawana for a number of reasons. First, they are representing South Africa as a whole, not just themselves. Secondly, them winning the CAF Champions League will mean that South Africa will have more teams playing in the competition in next year. That alone should have everybody supporting Masandawana.
Their supporters are well known for their singing and beating of the drum while on it. How nice could it be if we all joined them at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday. Imagine all of us singing their famous song together,
"Masambe Nono, iyehaa, masambe Nono, Masambe Nonoooh, masaaambe Nono, siyolaala, siyolal'ebedin."
"Masambe Nono iyehaah masambe Nono, masaaambe nono siyolaaaaala siyolal'ebedin."
Or this one:
"Kabo yellow, hay hay hay, Kabo yellow hay hay hay, Kabo yellow Masandawana, hay hay hay, Kabo yellow hay hay hay."
South Africa, let us all rally behind Masandawana, for the sake of our country and our football. Remember when Orlando Pirates won this competition in 1995? The very next year, 1996, Bafana Bafana won the Africa Cup of Nations.
Part of the reason Pirates won this competition was that every football lover in the country was behind them. I urge all of us football lovers, once again, to rally behind Masandawana. Let us join them in song and help them achieve their quest to conquer Africa.
What is your message for Sundowns?
