A massive day in Kaizer Chiefs' history arose on Tuesday; they embarked on a massive spring clean, announcing that 20 players would no longer be donning the gold and black next season. This was largely welcomed as good news by the Khosi Nation; however, supporters are scratching their heads as they watch Siyanda Xulu, one of the 20, head for the exit door...
Many saw Xulu as the next real talent; after all, he has, in the past, been offered trials at Barcelona and Arsenal. On top of this, he featured in more than 80 games for Sundowns and, from the position of center back, scored four goals and provided three assists for the Brazilians.
What happened from there is a puzzle, though. He made only nine appearances for Amakhosi, and even scored a goal in that time (his goal tally was better than striker Bongani Ndulula's...). Many supporters still think he has something to offer the team.
"I don't understand why Xulu is on that list, the boy was never given a chance." – Mavusi_12
There are those who are as disturbed by Xulu's impending exit as they are about the rumours of Ramahlwe Mphahlele's imminent signing for the Naturena club.
"It also surprises me that a player of Siyanda Xulu's quality, a player who is also a so called a 'KC development product', can be put on transfer after just one season at a club ,when you consider how long we kept Morgan Gould even when he was clearly out of touch for all the time he spent at Chiefs... I doubt if Ramahlwe Mphahlele is better than Xulu." – Lebohang848
In fact, the decision to release Xulu is so startling to some supporters that many of them think Xulu is being punished for the infamous own goal he scored on his MTN8 debut (he did go on to score the winner in that match, though).
"Since Xulu scored that own goal in MTN8, he has never played…. Sad for a professional team." – mthimkhulu
What do you think of Xulu's impending exit? Would you have made the same call as Chiefs management? Can Mphahlele replace him?
