Kaizer Not As Rich As Motsepe, Not As Powerful As Khoza?

An exciting time is upon us in the current football season. We begin to watch the high-velocity merry-go-round as players swap and change through various teams, and the world finds out where they will be working and playing next season. South Africa is waiting with baited breath to see what quality signings Kaizer Chiefs will make… if any.

There have already been some rumblings in local football circles, but there are a few knowns. For example, we know that Eleazar Rodgers and Pentjie Zulu will be playing for Bidvest Wits next season. We also know that NFD top goal scorer Thabiso Kutumela will be playing for Orlando Pirates; this delights the Happy People as their club has taken strides to show that they are in action and have a plan for next season.

So the question arises: Where are the big-name signings for Kaizer Chiefs? In Supporters Club, one reader, TrevorBaker, suggested that the lack of big-name signings at Naturena shows "no remorse for the dismal season". Other supporters were quick to defend the club, saying that signing players is not as easy as it seems. One supporter, in fact, suggested that Kaizer Motaung may be further down the power pecking order than one might think.

"Kaizer chiefs might be one of the biggest clubs in SA, if not the biggest, but the fact remains, Kaizer Motaung is not as rich as Patrice Motsepe and he certainly is not as powerful as Khoza in the PSL, so people must take that into consideration. When it comes to competing for players, Chiefs will come second to those two most of the time. I believe that KC management will do all they can to sign quality players for next season." – Rwepz Meraba

This alludes to a question many supporters have been asking recently, and it is something that has come up in Get Published numerous times too: Are Kaizer Chiefs not as financially strong as one might think?

Do you think Chiefs have lost their powerful status? Will players be more attracted to play for Sundowns and Pirates?
