This weekend saw an explosion of entertainment in the local football scene. One of the shock results of the weekend was the 3-1 drubbing handed to Bidvest Wits at the hands of Free State Stars. We hear from the voices behind the magic.
The reason this result came as a surprise was because Stars have experienced some instability recently, having fired French coach Denis Lavagne and rehired Italian coach Giovanni Solinas. We hear from Ea Lla Koto superfan Matsidiso Tshabalala.
"You know, the game was so WOW! We are back! Giovanni Solinas is back! Italian football is back in the Free State! We are too happy to have our Italian coach back, we are looking dangerous and we are happy people," Tshabalala said.
"That Denis Lavagne guy was struggling with us, he never even won a game. It was obvious he was not a good coach.
"We knew we would win this game against Wits, they are our daily bread! Every tournament we come up against Wits, we beat them, but we never expected the score that we gave them. We thought we would beat them 1-0 but that 3-1 scoreline, that surprised us.
"It was a lovely atmosphere at the stadium and we will be in the final of this competition so long as we can play the next game at home."
