The results are in and the teams are confirmed. The mighty African nations are preparing to go to war at AFCON 2017 in Gabon. There are some incredible results from the qualifications. Firstly, Uganda has made their first AFCON in 38 years. Secondly, Bafana Bafana will be watching from home, and thirdly, Zimbabweans will be carrying the hopes of Southern Africa to the tournament.
The Warriors of Zimbabwe have assembled a formidable team and now will compete in their first AFCON in over a decade. Supporters Club caught up with Zimbabwean national John Sibanda to gage the joy of the nation.
“It is an interesting time to be a Zimbabwean, it is a great time to follow the football but a terrible time to follow the politics. We have our football team, which the hopes of the nation depend on.
“And what a fantastic team we have, it is like a PSL first XI. We have Cuthbert Malajila, Tendai Ndoro, Evans Rusike, Kuda Mahachi, Captain Katsande, and oh… I’m forgetting someone; Khama Billiat.
“The Warriors are stronger than they’ve ever been, probably stronger than the team of Peter Ndlovu and Bruce Grobbelaar’s era.
“You know, times are really tough for us Zimbabweans. Our land is in turmoil and there is not much cash floating around the economy, we hope in these dark times that The Warriors can bring us light, they carry the whole of Southern Africa and I think they will do tremendously well.”
Is this the best Zimbabwean national team ever?
