With the African Youth Championship qualifiers currently under way, it's safe to say that the performance of the South African U20 team could spark up some excitement for the future of football in our country. Will we finally get a glimpse of hope for our beloved Bafana Bafana?
Over the years, South Africa has produced great talent, including the likes of UEFA Champions League winner Benni McCarthy, who, might we add, was instrumental in his team's victory, Lucas Radebe, Delron Buckley, Quinton Fortune, Stanton Fredericks, the skilful Steve Lekoelea and Jabu Mahlangu, and the list could go on from the 2000 Olympics team.
Today, as we sit all glum and questions linger as to why our national team continuously fails, it really is hard to give a definite answer as there could be many factors involved. However, that does not hold us back from building a future with our youth.
Looking at the Amajita team, it would be safe to say that we could finally have the future Bafana that we have dreamed of. The talent in the U20 and U23 squads could leave you with a stunned look on your face, and, through correct development and mentorship, there should be no reason why the supporters would be left teary-eyed for the wrong reasons.
Do you believe that South Africa has great future talent that could turn the fortunes of the national team around?
