The transfer window is on the verge of closing. It has been a wonderful spectacle to sit back and marvel at as a football supporter. Many teams had their various ambitions and targets heading into the window; now that it is closing, it is time to reflect – who were the big winners and losers?
There can be no doubt that Mamelodi Sundowns are a team to be taken seriously. Not just because of their antics on the field, where they broke impressive league records last season, but also for their business dealings off the pitch.
They have made one marquee signing after another, including Sibusiso Vilakazi, Thapelo Morena, Lucky Mohomi, and most recently Anele Ngcongca. This has left the supporters marveling at the buying power of Chloorkop, and has forced them to make some comparisons to other teams.
"How many right backs do they have now? Mbekile, Zwane, and now Ngcongca. I won't be surprised if they sign Mayweather." – tpmokuppo
"Sundowns means business and their dealings denote that they want to overtake the Soweto giants in terms of achievements. I foresee Chiefs following in the footsteps of the once-mighty Birds, Moroka Swallows." – Gambu Ka Msuthu
"Now this machine is well oiled and raring to co... CCL is our first destination, then comes the MTN8. After that, it's the Telkom Knockout, then comes the league, with Nedbank our final destination. So buckle up, lads, for the ride of your lifetime and watch Sundowns FC, the Yellow Submarine, Yellow Nation, Shoe Shine & Piano, Bafana Bastyle and the Rich Boys of SA Soccer rewrite history that will take years to be surpassed." – Mr. Jones
"Chiefs targeted Vila, Morena, Ngcongca, Rantie, and Ntshangase, Mohomi, Mahlangu, Mobara, Mahachi… The list is endless but they failed to sign even a single player." – fitso vs idiots
"I salute Sundowns, they will surely dominate this season. Come next season they will sell their best performers with good prices, then buy the best PSL performers the with lower prices, good business will surely benefit the team. As for my stingy team, will keep blaming coaches as long as we not buying 'wow' players." – Malose
Can anything stop Sundowns given their new squad?
