Once again, as is always the case in football, the rumors are flying. Particularly around Kaizer Chiefs. No one knows how cemented Steve Komphela's job is. Furthermore, the supporters are beginning to wonder why it is that Gavin Hunt has never coached one of the big clubs or even Bafana Bafana.
"Gavin Hunt is ready and qualified learned coach who has proved his credentials as the best coach," Soccer Laduma website user Mphumzoh said.
"Demote Steve to be his assistant or his understudy. I'm sure Steve can learn a lot from him."
Many are in agreement; after all, Hunt is one the best coaches in the PSL. However, how realistic is it to expect either Irvin Khoza or Kaizer Motaung to give him a call? Not very much according to the supporters.
"I don't see Mr Hunt joining Chiefs." – Siya 1988
"Gavin Hunt is way too smart to join Chiefs. Do you know why? Bobby Motaung." – Ant_55
"Hunt and Chiefs are like chalk and cheese." – Dangerous_when_provoked.
So maybe it is not the case that Hunt will be in the Gold and Black any time soon, but that doesn't take anything away from his obvious prowess as a coach.
It is also well known that he is a "my-way-or-highway" kind of coach. He does not like political interference and he does not like being told what to do.
It was these things that are widely cited as the main reasons for his departure from Moroka Swallows. So maybe the question we should be asking is not whether Hunt would be a good coach for Kaizer Chiefs...
If Chiefs, or Bafana Bafana for that matter, were to offer Hunt the head post, do you think he would take it?
