In what might sound to many football followers like he is holding SAFA into ransom, attacking midfielder Thulani Serero has stated clearly that he is not taking a flight to Mzansi before he gets assurances from the technical team that he will play.
"Yes it is true, he does not want to report for the Bafana Bafana camp if he is not guaranteed to play, but what has disgruntled the technical team more is that he waited until the flight ticket was booked and all expenses paid before he made this decision," SAFA's head of communications Dominic Chimhavi told the Siya Crew.
"We have asked the player to put his grievances in writing and the association will make a decision after that."
Here's the reaction of some fans to Serero's demands:
"Ban him forever. No one is bigger than the national team." – EagleEye
"To hell with him then." – Faysal
"Now that's some idiotic thing to do. He's selfish, nje." – King_YaYa13
"I don't blame him." – Kabzz
"He thinks that he is so special. Go and kiss your career goodbye. Stupid idea." – Ramos12
"I support Serero on this one. Imagine flying from Holland to Africa just to watch Baxter's tried and tested ex-players from Macufe toy champs costing Bafana." – SL_hated_donkey
"I would've done the same if I was him... what's the use of flying all the way from Netherlands just to sit on the national team bench?" – Mashava
"Baxter flopped against Cape Verde. And how can Manyama and Villa start ahead of this boy? Baxter is disappointing, man." – ThatoMaphanga
"We don't need you, and please don't ever think of Bafana again." – Mash87
Do you think Serero is within his rights to demand a starting berth with Bafana?
