In a familiar yet still bizarre turn of events, Free State Stars have fired their French coach, Dennis Lavagne. This comes a couple of months after Italian coach Giovanni Solinas resigned from his position of head coach of the club. The supporters are asking when the madness will end in South African football…
This comes in the same time period that Stars came under issues of ownership, whereby they almost sold the club. Following this, they offloaded a number of star players to other clubs and have failed to really make any big-name signings… And now the coach is gone too.
"Mxm, Free State Stars are a joke, they sold their players hoping to sell the club but when the deal fell through, they didn't replace those players. Now how the hell was the man supposed to do his job? Some clubs are not serious." – old dog
"This is why the PSL is in such a bad state. How can you sack a coach before playing 10-15 games, that's sick. Three games gone and a coach fired? SAFA needs to do something about this. The club sold most of their players and pre-season was delayed, and this was not good for the team amid of takeover speculation. Mr Mokoena is doing no justice to football and SA's brand." – Bucks17
"The heads have started to roll, who's next? But l hate when club bosses are quick to fire their coaches while the culprits can be them or the players. l mean, you have 11-plus players you give instructions to but only two or three implement that, then you have a technical team that sits behind the coach with their ideas that are forced upon the coach. When they fail, the coach faces the music. It's a shame, really." – Sidi'ukotni
