You think you’ve ever been faced with a tough choice before? Have you ever been in a car with space for only one more person, then standing on the side of the road you see Benni McCarthy and Jomo Sono… Which one do you give a lift to?
Jomo Sono
Where do you begin with the Black Prince? The original South African footballer who put us on the map. He played for Orlando Pirates, New York Cosmos, Colorado Caribous, Atlanta Chiefs, and Toronto Blizzards. Unfortunately, due to the time in which he found himself playing, he never had the chance to represent his country. He played alongside the likes of Pele and Kaizer Motaung. Known for his fierce skill and scoring ability, Sono would go on to be one of the brightest sons of the country. He also managed the South African national team as well as started and managed his own club Jomo Cosmos.
Benni McCarthy
The all time top goal scorer for Bafana Bafana. No man has contributed to Bafana Bafana’s success more than Benni McCarthy. One of the few Africans to have won a UEFA Champions League, as well as played in Portugal, Holland, and England. He scored over 160 career goals, 32 of them coming for Bafana Bafana and is the fourth most capped South African international.
If it came down to it, which one of these players would you have in your Hall of Fame?
