Of the criticisms national team head coach Shakes Mashaba has to face on a daily basis, and there are plenty, perhaps the biggest is of his selection policy. One of the most common complaints in this regard is the constant selection of players such as Thamsanqa Gabuza, considering he does not always feature at club level. However, some supporters have discovered a method to this madness...
Some think there is a rationality to always backing a player like Gabuza, in that the confidence shown in a striker can be repaid handsomely with goals.
"Shakes understands and believes in Gabuza. At least he is getting some goals in return. The problem with our coaches is that they judge the player early. They can't even motivate them while going through a rough patch. Encourage them to work hard and retain their form. That's what Shakes is doing with Gabuza." – DaBrisco Nation
"That's what I'm talking about. There are more overrated players who failed to deliver before this underrated guy (Gabuza) came to the national team. His commitment and dedication always works in his favour. I thank Mr Mashaba for seeing such a hidden factor in Gabuza's game." – mthi_luthuli
So it seems form is not the only thing that counts when it comes to national team selection. According to some of the supporters, sometimes it's about backing your boys, even in the dark times.
Do you agree with this? Does this justify Gabuza's constant national team selection for you?
