Hey Supporters Club
On taking over the editor's role… Your Cowditor Nik waves his goodbyes, and the new Cowditor, myself, steps in. I'm sure I am not a stranger to most of you. I have been working with Nik and the rest of the Supporters Club crew for a while now. It's just that now I will be taking over his role. Being a supporter myself, it feels great to be working with supporters.
On football matters… it is encouraging to see that the gap between the so-called big teams and small teams is slowly but surely closing. This augurs well for the standard of the PSL because it shows that the competitiveness is getting stronger. It is getting tougher every season. Two weeks ago, the new kids on the block, Cape Town City, won the Telkom Knockout after beating SuperSport United 2-1 in the final. While on this topic, it's also encouraging that Eric Tinkler, the Cape Town City coach, is a local coach. To top it all off, our own Mamelodi Sundowns recently represented the continent in the FIFA Club World Cup after being crowned the African champions. They, like City, are also coached by a local in Pitso Mosimane. The local coaches deserve some praise, they are hands-on in building a stronger PSL and putting it on the map.
On Supporters Club... I would like to encourage every football fanatic to come and join Supporters Club. This is the only platform that gives you, the supporter a say in South African football. Remember, you are football and there wouldn't be football without you. Let us all grab this opportunity that Soccer Laduma has provided us with and use it. No matter which corner of SA you're in, if you are a football supporter, then please come home, join Supporters Club!
Parting message… To all Supporters Club members and the football fraternity as a whole, I wish you all a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Those who are travelling, travel mercies be with you. Be safe. Let us all come back fully recharged next year!
