Free State Stars have a new coach! Following the departure of Italian mentor Giovanni Solinas, the club has now moved on. Ea Lla Koto had a rollercoaster season, some highs and some lows. Among the highlights was reaching the Nedbank Cup semi-final. What will the new coach bring?
Supporters Club caught up with branch manager and Free State Stars enthusiast Matshidiso Tshabalala to find out how the supporters are feeling about the appointment of Frenchman Denis Lavagne.
"Ag, it's too early to tell, hey. We don't know him, we don't know his style," he said.
"Last season, we were the Italians in the league, playing Italian football, and now we will be playing French football.
"We will stand behind the new coach and support him.
"We were told that Solinas left because of family issues, so we will continue to support him, we miss him.
"From what we hear, the Italians play similar football to the French so I think the distance will not be so great. We can do it next season, we will be dangerous."
Stars will now head into pre-season preparations and begin to gel with the new coach. Tshabalala also revealed that the supporters had a meeting yesterday and are happy with the appointment of, and will support, their new French coach.
Do you think Stars will be a dangerous team next season?
