As the vibrant nation of South Africa, the supporters are never afraid to be vocal about the current state of affairs, especially when it comes to the national asset of Bafana Bafana. It seems that supporters aren't too pleased with the way things are heading.
Disappointment is all around following Bafana's failure to qualify for the 2017 Afcon tournament in Gabon. There have been some particularly disappointing results, such as the failure to beat Mauritania over two legs.
This has got many believing that coach Shakes Mashaba should be relieved of his duties as the national team manager. However, there is another end of the scale to balance and that is the fact that we, as a nation, have fired many a coach and it has never brought much happiness, despite us having some very good coaches, as was explained by one of our supporters:
"The Bafana job is a poisoned chalice. Notice how all our talented coaches never really manage to get the trick right with that team? Pitso, Gordon, Shakes and now we want Gavin; no ways. The national team job is actually tarnishing the reputations of our precious coaching talent. Not even a World Cup winner managed to find the trick. Football has moved on and left this country behind." – Patriot
So perhaps we should not wish for our favourite coaches to take the job as it never ends in much happiness for either the country or the tactician...
But if it's not the coach, then what is the problem?
