After Soccer Laduma sent its condolences to Philemon Masinga's family after his passing, tributes poured in on social media from readers. Most fans remembered him for his screamer against the Democratic Republic of Congo that sent South Africa to the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.
Katlego Simon Lephera expressed his grief on Soccer Laduma's Facebook page:
"He fought the good fight, he ran his race, he kept the faith and he finished his course. May the gates of heaven welcome him with peace. The big Phil, rest in power."

Masinga's career had a more profound impact on some fans and he seemingly helped shaped Ntsokolo Will Ntshoko's footballing identity. According to the Soccer Laduma reader, "Chippa" is the reason he chose to support Mamelodi Sundowns:
"You are one of those guys that made me support Sundowns. Rest in peace, Masinga."

When many fans think of Masinga, they remember his contributions in sending Bafana Bafana to the 1998 FIFA World Cup held in France. Soccer Laduma reader Lelatsa Raphula Daniel Khang fondly looked back at the day Masinga scored the goal that sent South Africa to the World Cup:
