“Coach why is Khune, Lorch and Tau selected? These guys are great and all but looking at their performance and that one of them have been out injured almost the whole season, they clearly don't deserve the spot and l feel other players could have been given a chance.”
This is one of the pertinent questions raised by SL Supporter @ThaboMathebula regarding the latest Bafana squad announced by head coach Molefi Ntseki.
He is not the only one who has questioned some of the selections made by Ntseki to face off against Sao Tome e Principe in back-to-back fixtures this month as they look to get closer to another AFCON campaign, which will take place in Cameroon next year.
SL Supporter @Igcokama_elisha questioned the absence of the inform trio of Bongi Ntuli, Rushine De Reuck and Motjeka Madisha, while he blasted the selection of Itumeleng Khune and Thabo Matlaba.
“What a joke! No Ntuli, no De Reuck, no Cardoso, no Madisha, no Kapinga like really, Khune selected on what basis? Because even at Kaizer Chiefs he has been given a rare start. Matlaba is playing as midfielder at Leopards but he is selected as a defender, lol this is completely a joke.”
Meanwhile @VibeHeist has questioned the absence of Bongani Zungu and feels that Thembinkosi Lorch should have been snubbed from the squad.
“Coach are you still celebrating Lorch’s goal in Egypyt? The man is nowhere to be found here in Mzansi! How do you cut out Zungu and include Lorch? Where is Ntuli?”
There are also those like @Msanisto who have questioned Thabiso Kutumela’s inclusion in the side, stating that the Maritzburg United striker hasn’t scored enough goals to be considered a national team striker
“This is the worst squad. What is the basis for selection here? Matlaba is playing as a midfielder at Leopards but he is selected as a defender, really? Kutumela, has how many goals as a striker? How many games has Khune played? I could ask so many questions...”
