Mamelodi Sundowns lost to Bidvest Wits in the MTN8 final at Mbombela Stadium on the weekend. The game itself lived up to the expectations, and even exceeded them to a certain degree. The final score was 3-0 in favour of the Students, who totally outplayed Sundowns on the day.
Supporters Club spoke to Basetsana Ntsweng, an SLSC committee member and prominent Sundowns supporter, to get her thoughts on the encounter.
Beaver Nazo: Hi Bassie, how are you doing?
Basetsana Ntsweng: Hey Beaver... Eish, I'm not doing well, hey! (laughs)
Beaver: Sundowns lost the MTN8 final in a humiliating manner. What is your take on the game?
Basie: I think I should just sum it up by saying it was just not our day. Congratulations to Wits, they had a plan going into that game and they executed it very well. They were the better team on the day.
Beaver: It must hurt losing a cup final like that.
Basie: What hurt me the most was to see some of our players crying, knowing that they gave their all. But there's nothing we can do about it now, it's done and dusted. Our blood still remains yellow, though.
Beaver: What do you think went wrong for you?
Basie: Nothing, Beaver, this is the nature of the game. You win some and lose some.
Beaver: The focus is surely on the CAF Champions League now...
Basie: Yes, and we have to make sure that we do not concede any goals here at home. We have to score more goals to make things easy for ourselves in Egypt, their fans can be intimidating over there.
Beaver: Any message for the boys?
Basie: I was with them on Sunday and I told them not to lose hope, they must just stay focused. We are doing this for our country. They must make South Africa proud.
Beaver: Basie, thank you for talking to us, and we wish you and Sundowns everything of the best in your quest to conquer Africa.
Basie: Thank you very much, Beaver, and have a great week.
Do you agree with Basis sentiments?
