Mamelodi Sundowns will lock horns with Egyptian giants Zamalek in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final at the Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday. Downs' top marksman Leonardo Castro is still nursing an injury and the Brazilians missed him in their recent loss to Bidvest Wits in the MTN8 final. Surely coach Pitso has something up his sleeves and will tread carefully in this one?
Supporters Club sat with Sundowns super fan Bishop to get his thoughts on the matter.
Beaver Nazo: Hi Bishop, how are you doing?
Bishop: Hey Beaver, all is well, my brother.
BN: The CAF Champions League finale has almost, and your team will square off against Zamalek. Your thoughts, please?
Bishop: Well, the team is raring to go, they want to bring the star to RSA.
BN: Many believe that Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat's recent slump in form has been caused by the absence of Castro. Your thoughts on that one?
Bishop: We have a big pool of players at Sundowns, who can step in and do whatever Castro was doing. To answer you, no, it doesn't affect them to that extent. We have the likes of Villa and Laffor.
BN: Sundowns are fresh from a 3-0 drubbing by Bidvest Wits. Did that dampen the spirits in the camp?
Bishop: Actually it didn't, because we had the thinking that the MTN8 would be a curtain-raiser for this one, but we were humbled by Wits. The boys will not make that mistake this time. They are all eager to win this one.
BN: Lastly, any message for the boys ahead of this crucial encounter?
Bishop: They mustn't think that by being in the final, they have done it. They must work very hard, double their efforts. In 2001, I was in Egypt for the final against AL Ahly, we were humiliated there. We don't want that, it's just a pity that we start here, our wish was to start in Egypt.
BN: Bishop, thanks for talking to us, and all of us here at Soccer Laduma wishes Masandawana everything of the best in their quest to conquer Africa.
Bishop: Much appreciated Beaver, thank you my brother.
Do you think Sundowns can make South Africa proud by lifting the continental title?
