A harsh reality came crashing down on Cape Town City this weekend as they were hammered in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final with a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Bidvest Wits. The supporters are coming to terms with their first ever loss.
Cape Town City have come crashing down to earth. After an impressive start to their footballing history – a 2-0 win over Polokwane City and a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs – they have succumbed to one of this season's giants, Bidvest Wits.
Supporters Club caught up with CTC fan Christopher Willows to see how the supporters were feeling on this blue Monday.
"I compare this to the early days of Bafana Bafana," Chris said.
"We won our first game in 1992 against Cameroon and everyone thought we were fantastic, and then we started losing 4-0 to all these teams and they started calling us 4X4s (laughs). So it is the same with CTC; we are new, we are teething and our time will come.
"Of course, our first loss had to come at some stage, but I am going to be a classic football fan and blame the loss on the different altitude in Johannesburg. Shame, the boys had never played up there before, they couldn't breathe in that thin air.
"When Wits come back down to Cape Town, we will give them their reality check… I hope."
Is the damage already done for CTC?
